Lusaka, Zambia – Mum’s Care Hospital has joined hands with government authorities and community members in a national effort to clean the city, reinforcing its commitment to public health and disease prevention. As part of this initiative, the hospital’s staff and volunteers participated in sanitation activities, focusing on high-risk areas to curb the spread of waterborne diseases, particularly cholera.

Fighting Cholera Through Hygiene and Community Engagement

With the recent cholera outbreak posing a significant health risk, Mum’s Care Hospital has been at the forefront of response efforts, both within its facilities and across affected communities. The hospital has played a crucial role in:

  • Public Awareness Campaigns: Educating the community on the importance of handwashing, proper waste disposal, and safe drinking water.
  • Medical Support at the Cholera Treatment Centre (CTC): Providing healthcare personnel and donating essential supplies, including wheelchairs, to improve patient care at Heroes Stadium CTC.
  • Sanitation Drives: Engaging in citywide cleaning efforts to remove garbage, clear drainage systems, and disinfect public spaces to reduce the risk of further infections.

A Collective Responsibility for a Healthier Future

Speaking during the cleaning exercise, a representative from Mum’s Care Hospital emphasized the importance of collective action in preventing cholera outbreaks. “Healthcare goes beyond hospital walls. By ensuring our environment is clean, we are protecting lives and preventing diseases before they occur,” the representative stated.

The hospital continues to urge residents to maintain hygiene, avoid contaminated food and water, and seek immediate medical attention for any cholera symptoms. Through sustained efforts and collaboration, Mum’s Care Hospital believes that Lusaka can overcome the current health challenges and build a safer, healthier future for all.
